I like drinking water, but sometimes I’m not the best at remembering to.
It’s good for you to drink plenty of water every day. There’s oodles and oodles of articles and research on the Internet about it and of all of it’s health benefits.
But somehow I’m still making sure I get my video game dailies and goals accomplished every day!
Why is it that I struggle more with doing real life chores than gaming chores??
I have no idea.
But something I’ve discovered that helps me (being a gamer and all…) is to find a video game that helps me to do real life stuff.
I’ve tried many nutrition, calorie counting, and drinking water apps, and they’ve never floated my boat.
But finally (FINALLY!) I’ve discovered the perfect water app that gamifies drinking enough water every day.
It’s cute, it’s easy, and it make me take care of a an adorable, growing little plant.
It’s called Plant Nanny and it’s on Android and iOS.
It’s free and reminds you to drink water throughout the day.
If you’re anything like me and just need an extra nudge sometimes to remember when when you’re busy, try it now!
And gamify drinking water. For your own health along with you’re growing little plant!
And post in the comments what you think and if drinking water is something you struggle with too and what has worked for you!
Oh yes, water is the elixir of life! For years I relied on Coke, coffee and other nasties! (I am still a coffee drinker though). I now drink a good 2-3 litres of water every single day (I gave up on ALL sodas years ago) and have never felt better.
Anyone who finds it difficult to stay hydrated, add some fruit (sliced orange, lime, lemon) to your water, it makes a massive difference!
Also, carry a bottle and refill it according to what you need to drink.
It’s definitely a challenge for so many, but there are so many ways to make it easier!
Great post Wendy 🙂
Oooh, I totally have a water drinking app that I ignore. I’m going to go find plant nanny as soon as I’m done here.
As for why gaming tasks get done, there’s a boom called Reality is Broken that really helped me understand why I was willing to stay up all night for a raid but couldn’t remember to journal. Game theory is actually pretty fascinating, even when you’re not a full on gamer. I recommend it, if you haven’t already read it. 🙂
I never manage more than 2 glasses of water a day. I always start well and as the day progresses and I get busier, I just forget. Just downloaded the app – Thanks for the tip!
Yes! Oh, how I can relate 🙂 I remember at some point I got into creating a hierarchical point system for myself (to compete with myself of the day before) to accomplish certain activities during the day. As for water, I literally need to schedule this in — one glass when waking up, one before breakfast, one before lunch, one before “light snack” merienda style, one before dinner…. so much water and still not enough! Gaming sounds much more fun than scheduling though – will check this app out. Thanks Wendy!
yes, drinking water can be hard as to most it tastes bland and boring! What I like to do is put a squeeze of lemon or orange juice in the water from freshly cut lemons or oranges. Or mix water with your favourite herbal tea like liquorice, such a wonderful taste.
I can see that the app Plant Nanny could help if you need something like this to get you to drink water. Maybe combining both the app and what I suggest above could be a winner 🙂
Mmm, water! I don’t usually have much trouble remembering to drink water. I keep reusable bottles around the house. Plus, I don’t buy soda or juice (like, maybe a couple times a year at most)!
The concept of “gamifying” is a really interesting one! It’s a great approach to using your strengths.
So guilty of this. I’m trying by adding it to my daily to-do lists, and attaching it to some daily routines (I always drink a glass of water as my coffee is brewing in the morning). I tried tracking it in the UP app on my phone, but that didn’t do it. Maybe I’ll try your suggestion and see how that goes!
What a cool app!! On my way to get it because I can always use help remembering to drink water. Just a little worried that I’ll say I had water and didn’t, just to water the plant! 🙂
